Summer 2021: debates on future of Roma

In spite of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the civil society engaged in debates related to the future of democracy, from a multi-ethnic perspective.

The Democratic Union of Turkish Abroad (DUTA) participated to several meetings organised across the country, in Romania, to meet various representatives of NGOs representing Roma, to discuss a strategic plan for the future.

“We need, more than ever, unity and cross-cultural dialogue, if we want to be successful in our future projects. Europe will never be the same, after this crisis” said Ali Tair, the president of the Democratic Union of Turkish Abroad.

Most projects foreseen refer to preventing and combating extreme poverty, marginalisation, racism and violent extremism, which seem to have raised in Europe, in the last years.

Next Steps

The network of non-governmental and non-profit organisations which has been formed during several months of intense negotiations and debate produced a common programme and a set of annual objectives.

The consortia will announce the projects in due time, inviting more partners.
